What makes our therapy sessions so effective?
The first step toward lasting healing is through using an evidence-based therapy called Accelerated Resolution Therapy, or ART. ART is effective in treating not just trauma, but common issues such as depression, anxiety, suicidality, relationship issues, OCD, and even physical pain. Unlike most therapeutic approaches, ART can heal psychological pain and resolve mental anguish in as little as one session, helping you feel better, quicker.

Therapy services offered in Provo, Utah
Therapy for Trauma and PTSD
You grew up learning to be strong, independent, and self-reliant. Yet deep down, you find yourself struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, people-pleasing, perfectionism, and emotional overwhelm. Despite trying your best, certain patterns keep showing up, and you're not sure why. You also notice that the thought, "I'll never be good enough" seems to get in the way of every decision you make. Whether you are seeking help to heal from childhood trauma, a diagnosis of PTSD, or a recent traumatic event, together we will explore your experiences, and you will better understand how your past may be influencing your present while creating new ways of relating to yourself and others.
Therapy for Couples and Relationships
Our relationships can be one of the greatest sources of connection, meaning, and joy - but they can also cause our deepest pain. You may be frustrated at the repeated arguments with your partner and fed up with the feeling of "going in circles" with them - never truly resolving anything. You might be feeling misunderstood by your partner or struggling to communicate and wondering why the connection you once shared feels so different. Unresolved trauma often shows up most clearly in our relationships - with partners, family and even ourselves. As your therapist it will be my responsibility to help you resolve those unknown traumas that can be at the root of most of your relationship struggles.
Therapy for Anxiety and Depression
You're exhausted from carrying too much, like everything depends on you. Maybe your mind never seems to slow down, you worry constantly, overthink conversations, or feel on edge, even when others tell you nothing is wrong. Maybe you feel disconnected from yourself, struggling to find motivation and wondering why things that used to matter, no longer do. My job as a therapist isn't about "fixing" you as much as it is about helping you better understand yourself and helping you create healthy changes for the future.

Therapy for Betrayal Trauma
You're trying to heal from something that once made you feel safe but is now causing you to question your reality. The discovery of a betrayal can change everything. Whether you've learned of infidelity, hidden behaviors or addictions, deception, or another breach of trust, you are feeling emotions you never expected to experience. Reach out today so we can work toward an understanding of your emotional responses, process the impact of the betrayal, and reconnect with your own strength and clarity.

Therapy for loss and grief
You're feeling more pain that you have ever experienced before, trying to wrap your head around what just happened. Grief can arise after the death of a loved one, but it can also follow the loss of a relationship, a dream, your health, a sense of identity, a pet, or even a significant life transition. Unfortunately, there is no "guidebook" telling us the "right way" to grieve. Therapy is not about getting over your loss, but about honoring your experience, caring for yourself through the grieving process. Together, we can make space for your sadness, questions, memories, anger, and uncertainty. Reach out so we can get started.
DBT life skills therapy
Most of your mental health progress and healing will take place in our sessions together, however people are often interested in learning skills to help them cope with their stressors between sessions. Using life skills from the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) handbook can teach you everything from Mindfulness to Radical Acceptance to help your days between sessions go more smoothly.

FAQs
1. What is the difference between EMDR and ART? Many people say ART is basically "EMDR on steroids", meaning it can create the same positive results in a fraction of the time. Studies show that EMDR is more "free associative" where ART identifies the "problem" first and then focuses on addressing and treating the problem directly, making the process more efficient. I have talked with therapists trained with both EMDR and ART. They all say once they learned ART, they never went back to using EMDR for their clients. ART and EMDR both use bilateral stimulation to help achieve effective, long-lasting results, but it is the only similarity between the two types of therapy.
2. How much does a therapy session cost? I charge $150 per hour session. I currently take a few insurances but am actively in the process of moving to strictly private pay practice. If you would like to use your "out-of-network" benefits, I am happy to provide a super bill for your insurance company. Most insurances pay at least some of your out-of-pocket cost. Please reach out and ask me if you have any questions.
3. How do I know if I'm a good fit for ART? I am happy to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about ART or my treatment process. I have found in the past 7 years that the ART process has been successful for 95% of my clients.
4. Can ART help me with my specific problem? ART is a creative brain process where you essentially rewire the brain thinks about something. It can basically take an ineffective or unhealthy way of thinking and quickly change it to a healthy, effective way of thinking. ART can help resolve any problem that is caused by an ineffective way of thinking or feeling. Common things that are addressed with ART: anxiety, depression, suicidality, addiction, relationship issues, hypervigilance, nightmares, OCD, physical pain, making difficult decisions, self-worth, healing negative core-beliefs, shame, and MORE. About 1 in 50 clients will struggle with ART because they are not ready to "let go" of an issue or trauma as they have, what we call "secondary gains". For example, someone who believes their abuse as a child was a good thing because it made them the strong person, they are today. There are only a few issues that could be barriers for the full effects of ART to be noticed. It may sound "too good to be true", but I remind my clients to "trust the process and trust your brain", the rest will fall into place.
5. How long should I expect the treatment process to take? Your therapy treatment time will depend on your specific issues and levels of trauma. I have helped some clients resolve a one-time trauma like a car accident in one or two sessions total. I have also worked with clients who have grown up with and lived a life full of unfairness and chronic trauma. These clients have seen me consistently for up to 18 months. Each client is different, but I make sure that everyone who "graduates" is feeling good and like they've completed their therapy goals.
6. Do you offer other types of therapy besides ART? A big part of completing the ART process involves talking about your past experiences and current stressors. This is what I call "the digging process". One should expect to have at least 2-3 "talk therapy" sessions at the beginning of treatment and then sporadically throughout our time together. If you would like to just talk and process things during our weekly sessions, then I am happy to do that as well.
7. What should I expect in our sessions together? It is my goal to get to the root of your suffering as quickly as possible and then to heal that issue with Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). I believe our therapy sessions should be used to be actively working on getting you closer to your "mental health finish line". I take a very direct approach to healing and I am willing to push you to deal with "the hard things". If there is a day where you are dealing with current stressors and would prefer just to process those, we can absolutely put a pin in our ART processing for the time being. I also often give my clients "homework" to work through between our sessions together.
8. Once I start feeling better, do my negative symptoms come back? Once you resolve a past trauma or issue, the outcomes are long-lasting. The flashbacks and triggers will not come back. ART cannot protect you from future traumas per se, but you can use ART to help strengthen your brain and body to deal with day-to-day stressors, making it easier to cope with.

What is trauma?
When someone hears the word trauma, they think of stressful events such as witnessing a fatality, being a victim of child abuse, surviving sexual violence, dealing with the loss of a loved one, or even living through a natural disaster. The difference between trauma and stress is that when a stressful event ends, it's over. When one is experiencing trauma, the event has ended but the mind and body continue to relive it over and over. Trauma is your body's reaction to something that affects you to such a degree that it inhibits your ability to function day to day. Trauma is not the event that happens, but how your body responds to it. Two people could experience the very same event and have two very different responses to it.

What is ART?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy, or ART, is a cutting-edge eye movement therapy that was developed from a variety of therapeutic techniques, and the results have proved to be unlike any other treatment available. ART uses the concept of voluntary image replacement in order to "reprogram" the way the brain remembers and processes specific traumas. The brain will remember the facts but the body is no longer triggered to experience intense physical and emotional reactions. These rapid, effective, and long-lasting results are achieved by the use of bilateral stimulation, more specifically back and forth eye-movements, similar to those experienced during REM sleep. ART is effective in treating not only the negative effects of trauma, but other mental challenges such as depression, negative core beliefs about self and others, grief, relationships issues, addiction, sleep problems or even heart break.
